In order to facilitate the transplantation, a shave of the donor zone and/or the recipient zone (approximately 1 mm in length) is carried out beforehand. The practitioner then ensures that the patient is well settled. A strict asepsis and local anesthesia are performed, then the session can begin.
Depending on the size of the area to be treated and the difficulty of the intervention, the duration of the intervention can vary without ever exceeding 10 hours. After the session, a post-operative kit is given to the patient to facilitate grafting and good healing. In all cases, treatment and follow-up are always adapted to the person.
Is It Painful?
The operation is painless after local anesthesia of the affected areas. Performing this anesthesia can cause a relatively limited sensation of discomfort.
What Are The After-Effects Of Hair Transplantation?
At the end of the operation, the operating instructions are given to the patient and the practitioner may apply a dressing at the donor area.
The most common postoperative courses are:
- An edema of the face that may appear within 24 to 48 hours and then subside in a few days
- Small crusts on the donor area and the recipient area, which disappear within 7 to 10 days
- Mild to moderate redness to the implanted area, which then subsides within a few weeks
- A shedding phenomenon, common during the first trimester, before the grafts grow and become denser over the following months.
Moreover, it is important that the grafts remain clean and well protected from any traction or uprooting during the first week after the procedure.
